UBS
Access UBS (historically known as Sage UBS or User Business System) is one of the most widely established entry-level accounting and business management systems in Southeast Asia.
Developed in 1988, it grew to become the #1 best-selling small business accounting software in Malaysia and Singapore, boasting over 500,000 SME users. In 2006, it was acquired by the global software giant Sage, and more recently, it was acquired by the UK-based The Access Group, which actively maintains and updates the platform under the name Access UBS.
Core Overview
Target Audience: Micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), trading companies, and property management offices. It is so ubiquitous in Southeast Asia that it has been used for decades as the standard training material in over 350 universities and colleges.
Geographic Focus: Malaysia and Singapore. It is meticulously aligned with local statutory regulations, featuring native solutions for Malaysian Sales and Service Tax (SST) and inclusion on Singapore’s IRAS approved accounting software register.
Architecture: Historically built as a robust, heavily keyboard-driven desktop software backed by a stable local database. Newer versions (UBS Evo) introduce cloud integration, allowing businesses to check out a mobile license to work remotely for up to 30 days.
Key Modules & Ecosystem
UBS Accounting & Billing: The core ledger engine. It features multi-currency capabilities, an 18-month accounting period buffer, customizable dashboards, and automatic posting from invoicing directly into General, Debtor, and Creditor ledgers.
UBS Inventory & Billing: Highly favored by trading businesses for basic stock control. It tracks stock levels, handles purchasing/sales order workflows, and supports smart document attachments (like linking physical receipts or weight slips directly to a transaction).
UBS Payroll: A localized human resource tool that automates salary, deductions, and monthly statutory contributions (like EPF, SOCSO, and PCB in Malaysia).
UBS Building Service Maintenance: A highly unique, niche module specifically built for property managers and landlords to track tenants, manage maintenance schedules, and generate cyclical rental billing.
UBS Point of Sale (POS): A straightforward terminal interface tailored for standard retail cashiers and inventory deduction at the counter.
